About Me

Photo of Simon Shupp
Hello, I'm Simon.
Sit back for a spell, and let me tell you about my self.
I started working on computers and mainframes when I was about 12 years old. I have been up to my eyeballs in UNIX systems ever since. In the 23 years since my first login, I have gone from a boy "playing" in a system, to a system administrator with over 500 systems entrusted into my care.

My Hobbies

My hobbies include Communication, Mobile Devices, MMORPGs, Nature, and Unix Systems. Any time I can combine two or more hobbies in to one activity, I happily do.

My Motorcycle, Two wheels, the open road, and a full tank of gas. What a rush. It's only a fifteen minute drive from work to home, but I can never seem to do in less than an hour, on the bike.
Communication, just that, talking, typing, or networking, it's all good.
Mobile Devices, put the power of the Internet into the palm of your hand, now walk around, without wires. Now THAT is true power!
Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Games, or MMORPGs. You are playing a game, and in the game you are walking along, and you meet someone. That someone is someone else playing the same game. Look around, you see hundreds of people, each one is also playing the same game. Each is interacting with the environment, and each other. What a blast!
Nature, walk out your front door, listen to the trees whispering. Take a walk down a path in the woods, hear the River laughing? Look around, see the storm clouds rolling in? Was that the wind howling? Nature is so much more that pretty grass, or cute fuzzy animals, some of which are not so fuzzy, mind you.
Unix Systems, they are the power that no one ever hears about. They quietly do their job, day in and day out. In a day of viruses, windows security holes, and the Internet, Unix is a force to be reckoned with. When companies want a rock solid presence on the Internet, they put their best foot forward. That usually means they put a Unix System online, and point the world to it. Even Companies that run or create windows software for profit, will place a Unix System online to face the harsh reality that is the Internet.
